Heavy duty concrete

The heavyweight among concrete types is concrete with a volume mass up to approximately 3800 kg/m³ (compared to standard concrete: 2000 to 2400 kg/m³). Heavy duty concrete is therefore found in places where weight plays a role: as counterweight in bascule bridges, as ballast material in foundations, in bank protection constructions and other water construction works.

Radiation bunkers and x-ray rooms are often also built from heavy duty concrete because the material, with its enormous mass, offers impenetrability and effective radiation protection.

The high volume mass is achieved with special aggregates, such as metal ores and heavy spar or natural minerals such as, for example, basalt or barites. Heavy duty concrete requires extra care in transport, construction (high own weight) and form work (sideward pressure) Basal can tell you all you need to know.
